Cross Country is classified as an "Equivalency Sport”. This means that coaches can" share" their allocation of scholarships between a larger number of runners.
There are 302 division 1 and 223 division 2 colleges that offer college cross-country scholarships for men. The NCAA allows each Division I cross-country program 12.69 scholarships for men and 18 for women. In Division II the ratio is 12.6 scholarships for men and 12.6 for women.
There are a total of 6,641.46 men’s cross-country scholarships in the NCAA alone. For women's cross-country the total number in the NCAA is 8,901. Remember, these scholarships can be divided among many players therefore allowing more opportunities.
