Lacrosse is classified as an “Equivalency Sport”. What this means is, for example in men’s lacrosse, a coach can divide the scholarships allocated between a larger number of players. Say 20 partial instead of 12 full ride scholarships. Of course the percentage of scholarship coincides with the coaches assessment of a players contribution to the team so there are possibilities of a “Full Ride” for those players the coach feels will make a great impact.
The NCAA allows each Division I lacrosse program 12.69 scholarships for men and 12 for women. In Division II there are 10.8 scholarships for men and 9.9 for women. There are 54 Division 1 and 30 Division II colleges that offer lacrosse scholarships for men. That's a total of 1,009.26. There are 77 division 1 colleges and 29 division 2 colleges that offer scholarships for women, a total of 1,211. Remember, these scholarships can be divided among many players therefore allowing more opportunities.
