Soccer is classified as an "Equivalency Sport" which means that coaches can "share" their allocation of scholarships between many players. What this means is, for example in women’s soccer, a coach can divide the scholarships allocated between a larger number of soccer players. Say 20 partial instead of 12 full ride scholarships. Of course the percentage of scholarship coincides with the coaches assessment of a players contribution to the team so there are possibilities of a “Full Ride” for those players the coach feels will make a great impact.
The NCAA allows each Division I soccer program 9.9 scholarships for Men and 12 for Women. In division II the ratio is 9 for men and 9.9 for women. That’s a total of 1950.3 Division I and 1584 in Division II Men’s soccer scholarship in The NCAA. For Women’s soccer there are 5303.7 in Division I and 2227.5 in Division II. Remember, these scholarships can be divided among many players therefore allowing more opportunities.
