Softball is classified as an "Equivalency Sport" which means that coaches can "share" their allocation of scholarships between many players. What this means, for example, a coach can divide the scholarships allocated between a larger number of baseball players What this. Say 20 partial instead of 12 full ride scholarships. Of course the percentage of scholarship coincides with the coaches assessment of a players contribution to the team so there are possibilities of a “Full Ride” for those players that the coach feels will make a great impact.
There are 262 Division I and 253 Division II colleges that offer softball scholarships. The NCAA allows each Division I softball program 12 scholarships and 7.2 in Division II.
That's a total of 4,965.6 softball scholarships available in the NCAA alone! Remember, these scholarships can be divided among many players therefore allowing more opportunities.
