Wrestling is classified as an "Equivalency Sport". What this means is that coaches can "share" their wrestling recruiting allocation between a larger number of wrestlers.
In Division I a coach can divide "9.9" scholarships between a larger number of wrestlers; Say 18 partial instead of 9 full ride scholarships. Of course the percentage of scholarship coincides with the coaches assessment of the athletes contribution, so there are possibilities of a “Full Ride” for those wrestlers the feels will make a great impact.
There are 85 Division I and 39 Division II colleges that offer financial aid to wrestlers. The NCAA allows each Division 1 wrestling program 9.9 scholarships and in Division 2, 9 scholarships are available.
That's a total of 1,193.4 wrestling scholarships available in the NCAA. Remember, these scholarships can be divided among many players therefore allowing more opportunities.
